Ten international teams of architects brought together by the City of Paris present their thoughts and design for the dwellings of the future neighbourhood of Batignolles, the site of the Olympic Village of Paris candidature for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The teams selected through an international tender for architectural design and urban-planning launched by the City of Paris:
- Barto+Barto Architectes (France)
- FGP(a) french global project of Architecture (France)
- Massimiliano Fuksas Architecture (France / Italy)
- KCAP Kees Christiaanse Architects and Planners (the Netherlands)
- Lab Architecture Studio (UK / Australia)
- Josep Lluis Mateo - MAP Architectes (Spain), Dominique Perrault Architecture (France)
- Rudy Ricciotti Architecte (France)
- Atelier Seraji+Barkow-Leibinger (France-Germany)
- Architectures Francis Soler (France)
They have worked focusing on various issues such as living in a dense urban environment, housing typologies for athletes, the dwellings adaptability for transformation into family housing, and sustainable development.
The chosen site is situated next to the rail tracks of the Gare St Lazare. With its 45 hectares, it is one if the main site of the redevelopment scheme for north-east Paris. The entire urban project around the park of 10 hectares is drawn up by architect and town-planner François Grether and the landscape architect Jacqueline Osty.
The tender took place in two phases, during a period of ten weeks. Each phase was concluded with a meeting where each team presented its work and where discussions between conceptors, builders and all the people involved in the development of the site were held.
The exhibition presents these results through the entirety of documents produced during the workshop. The sketches, models, videos and texts illustrate the diversity and variety of the architectural propositions.
A book, edited by the Pavillon de l' Arsenal in the miniPA serie, accompanies this exhibition.
