Fernand Pouillon, architect

itinerant version

05 April 2008 - 06 April 2008 Scientific curator: Jacques Lucan, architect, professor

Scenography : Odile Seyler, architect,professor

To grasp in hindsight the importance of Fernand Pouillon's work (1912-86), we need to know something about the problems facing France in the 1950s, a period when the need for housing was the major social issue. Turning necessity into achievement, by 1961 Pouillon had already designed remarkable housing estates in the Parisian suburbs of Pantin, Montrouge, Boulogne-Billancourt and Meudon-la-Forêt.

This exhibition, which focuses mainly on Fernand Pouillon's works in the Parisian region, presents his residential schemes that, in their day and context, offered high quality living space and which remain remarkable examples of architectural production.

In addition, the exhibition pays tribute to a paradoxical architect, a figure whose worth was recognized by his peers, grudgingly or otherwise.
